Martin Penning
After graduating from the Newark School of Violin Making in 1999, Martin has specialised exclusively in new making. His work combines an artistic flair with a methodical approach to consistently producing instruments with a rich voice and an exciting visual appeal.
Martin started out working with Tony Padday with whom he continues to share a workshop. In this setting in rural Somerset he has produced many fine instruments including more than 25 cellos.
In 2004, Martin was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship for craftmanship which helped fund a trip to Melbourne to work with double bass maker Ben Puglisi. Together they made a handsome bass from beautifully figured poplar.
