Manuel Di Landa
Manuel initially trained in violin making at La Scuola Di Liuteria in Gubbio, Italy. After graduation, he studied for a further three years at the Newark School to learn restoration and to further improve his making skills.
His inspiration comes from the Italian makers of the 18th century from Cremona and Milano and in particular the Guarneri and Guadagnini families who he says, “perfectly mix the elegance of the curve, the outline and the beauty of the sound”.
Recently, Manuel has begun researching varnishing techniques and materials and their influence on both the aesthetic of the instrument and the brightness of the sound.
His interest is in developing new techniques of cooking varnish with different oils and resins with the aim to get a different range of colour and transparency and also to control the flexibility of the varnish to get a better sound.
