INSTRUMENTS
TO AFRICA
Strings has recently donated a number of instruments to Mansek Music Service, an organisation for teaching western classical music to Ghanaians.
Mansek Music Service, formed in Ghana in 1999, has strong links with the UK through Milton Keynes Music Service, which Strings has been involved with for many years as an instrument supplier. As well as instrument donations from the UK, there is an ongoing programme of cultural exchange and teacher training visits between the two music services.
Mansek aims to train as many students as possible and to enter them for practical and theory exams set by the UK's Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. It provides violin and cello lessons and also teaches flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, guitar, keyboard and piano.
"We are delighted to be able to help out with such a worthwhile venture," said Keith Crowe, Strings' retail manager
Strings has offered continuing support for Mansek in the past, by way of violins, strings, rosin, pegs etc. This latest offering, which was a joint donation with the Hitchin-based Benslow Music Trust is the largest yet. It comprised a car load of cellos, violins and various accessories for stringed instruments.
“We are delighted to be able to help out with such a worthwhile venture, ” said Keith Crowe, String's retail manager.
