TUNING UP FOR CHRISTMAS
24th November 2011
Over the last few decades, clever engineering has brought us the computer, the space shuttle, the large hadron collider, and now...the state-of-the-art violin tuning peg.
The design of violin pegs has remained much the same for centuries but the new Fine Tune Machine Peg range (pictured above) offers a distinct and impressive improvement for those who wish tuning could be quicker and easier.
Constructed from high tech composite material and light alloy, Fine Tune Machine Pegs look like traditional pegs but feature an ingenious internal gearing mechansim that will loosen or tighten the string when you move the peg head as normal.
Unlike a standard peg, however, the shank of a Fine Tune peg remains stationary in the instrument's pegbox so the peg cannot slip. The result is accurate tuning that is fast, easy, and reliable.
We suggest that you come to the shop to try some that we have already fitted to one of our violins to see for yourself.
The price of a set is £70.00 for violin and £110.00 for cello (with usual apologies to viola players).
Pegs will need fitting and the cost will depend on the condition of your instrument's peg holes, but our workshop team will be happy to provide a free quote if you drop the instrument in to us. We can determine the appropriate gauge at this stage too.
By the way, we will be taking part in Hitchin's Late Night Opening on Thursday 15th December, so if you'd like a glass of mulled wine and a handful of Quality Street, we'll be here until 8pm that day.
