By Road
Hitchin is 30 miles north of London, three miles from exit 8 of the A1(M) and 10 miles from Luton (exit 10 of the M1). Once you're in Hitchin, refer to the car park map. We are five minutes walk from most of Hitchin's car parks but do call us for advice on the best parking on a particular day.
From the A1(M)
Leave the A1(M) at exit 8 (signposted Hitchin Stevenage (North)/A602). Take the exit from the roundabout signposted A602 to Hitchin. Follow this road for a couple of miles until you reach another large roundabout (you will see the Three Moorhens pub on the far side of it). Take the 4th exit onto Hitchin Hill (B656 signposted Town Centre). You will soon reach a mini roundabout. Go straight across (2nd exit) into Queen Street and follow signs for one of the many town centre car parks (see map).
From the M1
Leave the M1 at exit 10, (signposted Luton Airport) and then follow all the signs to Hitchin (A505). Eventually you will arrive in Hitchin. Go straight over the mini roundabout, passing the Highlander pub on your right. You will reach a big roundabout: turn right (exit marked A602, Stevenage). This will take you to another large roundabout, which has the Three Moorhens pub on your left. Take the first exit onto Hitchin Hill (B656 signposted Town Centre). Go straight across the mini roundabout into Queen Street and follow signs for town centre car parks (see map).
Note: Deliveries and collections
If you are delivering/collecting something large/heavy (eg, a cello) you can usually drop it off/collect it at the door before/after parking in one of the town centre car parks. If you're coming from Hitchin Hill, you'll need to take a left at the mini roundabout into Bridge Street. (If coming from Queen Street, take a right.) Take the second turn on the right onto Bucklersbury. Strings is on the left hand side opposite the Kings Arms pub. Please tell us when you intend to arrive, so that you can avoid blocking the very narrow street (designed for horse and cart in a slower age) for any longer than necessary!
