Instrument
repairs
All repairs in our workshop are carried
out using internationally approved materials and techniques, to the highest
professional standards. Only traditional reversible glue is used in all our
restoration work, which is backed by our limited lifetime
guarantee.
Projects that you will frequently find underway include repairs
to cracks caused by extremes of humidity (such as saddle cracks), repairs to
cracks in the peg box (particularly on the A peg) and patches being fitted
precisely into instruments (which are needed for some problems, such as
soundpost cracks). We also retouch surface damage such as scratches to the
varnish.
With large scale restorations to antique instruments, much of
the work is often a case of undoing badly executed old repairs - cracks,
patches, varnish retouching - and then mending them properly!
We are proud of our reputation for attention to detail - from
varnish retouching to complex restorations of antique instruments.
Bow repairs
Work undertaken includes re-hairing, lapping, replacing worn screws and eyes,
and repairs to cracks in the frog and cracks in the head.
